Sun Mountain Lodge is the largest resort in the Methow Valley region of Washington (800/572-0493, 509/996-2211, www.sunmountainlodge.com). A winter adventure awaits you, with beautiful scenic views and trails that are interconnected with the Methow Valley 200 km trail system.
High above the valley near the town of Winthrop, the Sun Mountain Lodge is situated in the North Cascade Mountains on 3,000 acres as the perfect base camp with rugged snow-capped mountains, frozen lakes, crystal-clear streams and more than 65 km of groomed XC ski trails.
At the lodge there's a full service ski shop and XC ski lessons available in half hour, 1-hour, or a 2-hour Tour & Learn package. The rental equipment includes XC skis, snowshoes, or Altai skishoes, which are wide short backcountry skis with a climbing skin underneath. Horse drawn open sleigh rides can be taken to the minor's tent for a hot cocoa treat or a western style dinner package.
