Cross-Country Skiing andSnowshoeing at Highland Lodgeand Ski Touring Center - 1608 Craftsbury Road,Greensboro, VT 05841
Lessons, xc ski
and snowshoe rental equipment are available. There are sleds, toboggans
and children pulks to use, too. Highland Lodge attracts families and
couples, who ski to be outdoors in nature. Snowshoe nature walks are
available on the weekends. The lodge has reciprocity with Craftsbury
Outdoor Center (honor each other's trail pass) and there is an inn-to-inn
shuttle service between the facilities for those, who would like to
ski one way and get a return ride. Highland Lodge is 10 miles from the
Catamount Trail, which is Vermont's state-long xc ski trail for a bit
of a backcountry experience. There is a trail donation requested. The lodge has 11 guest rooms with private baths and there are 4 quaint fully equipped winter cabins that range from 1 to 3 bedrooms. The main lodge has comfortable living rooms, 2 dining rooms and a game room with ping pong and foosball. Lunch is served Thursday-Sunday and a group ski and special skier's lunch is available on Thursday. Travel and Leisure magazine said, "Among ski touring centers tied to country inns, Highland Lodge is a gem." Dave Smith and his family have been running the inn for 55 years! The village of Greensboro has an architectural walking tour and the lodge features springtime birding activities, is a popular family lake destination in the summer and there are quilt seminars in the autumn. The Great Circle Loop is an 18 km tour that skiers call the "most beautiful trail in the East!" Click here for Highland Lodge Specials such as the "Spontaneity Special" which is a unique offer that gives guests a 10 percent rate discount if they reserve their stay within 7 days of their planned visit. Other specials include for example special dinners, full moon and nature snowshoe walks, and offers for women's group discounts. From the south take Route 91 to the St. Johnsbury exit and from the west take Route 89 to the Montpelier exit. CCSAA member
