Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeingat Sundance Resort in UtahRR 3 Box A1, Sundance, Utah 84604
Other Sundance entities include the Sundance Institute, the Sundance Film Festival and the Sundance Channel, and the Sundance Catalog. But the original vision of Sundance began in this canyon, where centuries ago, the Ute Indians retreated to escape the summer heat and hunt abundant game below the spectacular 12,000 foot Mount Timpanogos. The cross country center has 26 km of groomed xc ski trails for classic and skate skiing. There's another 10 km of dedicated snowshoe trails and pristine backcountry trails to explore. The facility is open from 9-5 and there is a fleet of rental equipment, demo gear, lessons, and more. Nature programs and naturalist-guided hikes are available by reservation.
The Sundance restaurants were recently ranked second in the country in the Conde Nast Traveler's Gold List, Best of Food 2008. Dine at the Tree Room, which has earned awards as a Four Diamond Resort and from the Wine Spectator Magazine. It is decorated with natural American art from Robert Redford's private collection. The Foundry Grill has a wood burning grill and rotisserie and features Sunday Brunch Buffet. The Owl Bar was originally the Rosewood Bar in Thermopolis, WY, once frequented by Butch Cassidy's Hole-in-the-Wall Gang. It is now a private club (Utah regulations) and there's live music on the weekends.
Directions to Sundance from Salt Lake City Airport take I-80 East, I-215 South to 115 South towards Provo and exit 272. Turn left heading east (800 North in Orem) up Provo Canyon at Highway 189 and go 7 miles to Route 92 and 2 miles up the canyon.
