Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeingat the Inn at Starlight LakePO Box 27, Starlight, PA 18461
The Inn has rental equipment for xc skiing and snowshoeing, that along with trail use are complimentary for inn guests. The rentals are $25 for for cross country skiers and/or snowshoers that are day visitors.The trail fee is $10 for day visitors (non guests at the inn). The inn's trails are plentiful with the Ascend/Descend Trail as the main artery. The Water Tower Trail heads up to the inn's original wooden water tower on a path that is 1,400 feet of elevation and about 100 feet above the inn. At the end of this trail, it is recommended that you turn around and descend back down. The Quarry Trail is aptly named as the mountainside has been mined for slate and shale slabs. It loops back to the Ascend/Descend Trail but don't miss the view from the man-made spine that juts out, which is on the right. For the ultimate view, there is a stand of Blue Spruce trees to "The Top of the World" trail loop, which is at an 1,800 foot elevation There is also ice skating at your own risk on Starlight Lake in front of the inn with a cleared oval track in a figure eight design, which is ideal for first timers, couples and singles. One of the focuses at the Inn at Starlight Lake is on families and there is no extra charge for kids that they stay overnight in their parent's room at the inn. There also are complimentary meals for the young ones from the children's menu, when the child is with a paying adult. Ask about the "March Madness ," which offers three nights stay for two nights pay during March. Directions: From NY/NJ take 17W to Exit 87, PA Rte. 191 to Rte 370W. From Philadelphia take I-81 to NW PA. From NYC, take bus from Port Authority to Henrick, NY and the Inn will meet you to shuttle to Starlight Lake.
