provides guided outings and instruction to make your backcountry adventure
memories last a lifetime. With 26 years of experience, High Peaks guides
are licensed and certified mountain professionals that emphasize safety,
courtesy, and fun in the heart of the Adirondack High Peaks region.
High Peak Mountain Adventure
guides can customize courses and outings to meet specific needs for
individuals, groups, families, students, and corporate clients. Services
include guiding or instruction for enthusiasts that range from first
timer to advanced. There are guides, instruction, and rental gear for
all activities such as skiing, snowshoeing, camping, road and mountain
biking, climbing, canoeing, and kayaking.
BACKCOUNTRY SKIING, SNOWSHOEING, ICE
CLIMBING
The
skiing experience is in pristine and ecologically sensitive areas in
Adirondack Park on a pre-selected itinerary. The guides are certified
and EMS trained and the outings include the guide, instruction if necessary,
scenic views, lunch, and rental equipment if needed. A full day for
up to 3 people is $300 with additional people at $100 each. A half day
is $240 for the first three people and $60 for each additional person.
Some of the destinations
could include Avalanche Lake, Mount Marcy, Jack Rabbit Trail, or Wright
Peak Ski Trail.
Snowshoe trips can include up to 9 guests
with one guide at $300 for a full day ($100 for additional snowshoers)
and $240 for a half day ($60 for additional snowshoers).
Guided
telemark skiing or alpine touring emphasize skills and techniques and
skiers will experience top-of-the-world panaramas and then revel on
summit descents. Free of lifts and crowds, this is the most memorable
way to experience nature in the winter. Locations might include Mount
Marcy, Pelkey Basin, or Wright Wrong Gulley. $300 for 2 people and $100
for each additional person. A half day 4-hour telemark lesson is $240
for 2 skiers including rental equipment and $60 for each additional.
For
an ultimate adventure, climb frozen waterfalls and see breathtaking
views. Learn the basics of Ice Climbing or partake in more advanced
techniques. Up to 6 guests for one guide $300 for a full day for 3 people
and $100 for each additional person. It is $240 for a half day outing
and $60 per each additional..
HIKING/BACKPACKING, ROCK CLIMBING, CANOEING/KAYAKING
Summer adventures are even more plentiful
in the High Peaks region. Climbing instruction courses and adventures
are customized for the first timer to the more advanced climber. Skills
will be assessed to determine appropriate level of class - Introduction
to Rock Climbing, Top Rope Essentials, or Top Rope Setup and Safety
Management. Hiking and backpacking guides are ready to talk about
the history of the region and the Adirondack geological wonders.
Geo-Caching is for wilderness tech junkies
using a GPS and those that might enjoy searching for clues on a scavenger
hunt. Water sports in canoes or kayaks are available on local waterways
and lakes focusing in and around Lake Placid or perhaps float to a picnic
lunch held on an island in Saranac Lake.
Mountain
biking is available on trails at the Mt.
Van Hoevenberg Olympic venue with 30 miles of trails for mountain
bikers of all abilities. There is an $8 trail fee. The alpine ski area
at Whiteface Mountain also
has a lift served mountain bike park and trails for more heart pumping
mountain bike thrills. Mountain bike outings can also be arranges off
the beaten path. Equipment rentals and gear available at both of those
facilities.
High
Peaks has two facilities for overnight accommodations. The Vacation
House has 4 bedrooms and is located on Main Street in downtown Lake
Placid. The house, which sleeps 8 people can be the residential base
for weekend or week long adventures. It is $600 for a 2-night weekend
and $250 for additional nights and $400 per night on holiday weeks.
The Guide House is the other facility, which is dorm style with 3 private
bedrooms. There are futon beds and it sleeps 8 or more people.
Directions: Take
Route 87 to Keene exit then Route 9N (this is different from Route 9
North) to Route 73 to Main Street in downtown Lake Placid.
