Cross-Country Skiing andSnowshoeing at Dartmouth CrossCountry Ski Center - DOC House, Lower Level,Occom Pond, Hanover, NH 03577
The Dartmouth Cross Country Ski Center is used by the Dartmouth Ski Team but many locals also take advantage of the easily accessed location on Route 10 in Hanover. The Oak Hill and Storrs Pond trails are located on Reservoir Road and they are more difficult with uphill climbs and fast downhill runs. These trails were upgraded for the 2003 NCAA Championships held at Dartmouth. They are wide and given the highest priority for grooming. Trail tickets can be purchased at the Oak Hill Ticket Booth and Warming Hut, which is located in the Oak Hill parking lot. Snacks, drinks, a rest room and info are also available here. The golf course trails are relatively flat and are on the west side of Route 10. A bridge takes skiers over the creek to another part of the golf course toward the Occum Pond area and a popular sledding hill. Under the same bridge provides a narrower trail that brings skiers along the Connecticut River. On the east side of Route 10 is the Garipay Field trails and more of the golf course. These trails are the most popular for local skiers and there is a large town-owned parking lot to accommodate more cars. Lessons in xc skiing are available for $25 and are set up by appointment. Equipment rentals for xc skiing, skating and snowshoeing are available. There are no dogs allowed within 25 feet of the groomed trails. Ice skate rentals are available at the DOC House at Occum Pond along with services such as skate sharpening, wax recommendations, free maps, hot drinks snacks and accessories. Trail fees are $10 for daily use.
