Gunflint

has been operated by four generations of the same family, who have all
enjoyed welcoming guests to the northwoods on the Gunflint Lake near
the Gunflint Trail outside of Grand Marais, MN. There are 45 units on
site and activities include XC skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, snowmobiling,
and dog sled rides. There are snowmbiles to use, and for extra relaxation
try Jenny's Massage.
The accommodations include Classic Cabins on the lakeshore, Lake Homes, and Romantic Cottages. Most of the facilities are equipped with a fireplace, plush bedding, VCR, CD music system, and kitchen or kitchenette. Some have a washer and dryer. The Cabin rate ranges from $149-599 per night, Lake Home rates are $199-849 and the Cottages are $299-599 depending on the specific dates and number of people. Some of the accommodations are Pet Friendly and there are scheduled Dog Lovers Weekends on January 10-13, January 31-February 3 and March 6-9.
Gunflint
Lodge offers a variety of accommodation packages such as the Housekeeping
Package, the Modified Package, and the American Package. These packages
provide a range of service that include meals, maid service, firewood,
and trash removal. Also, look into offers such as the Nordic Package,
the Winter Family Weekend, or the Romantic Getaway.
There is fine dining at Justine's restaurant is in the Main Lodge. You can often enjoy wild game dishes with native ingredients. For more casual fare, the Red Paddle has a menu with chowder, fish sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, drinks, and sweets.
A list of xc ski trails in the region is at Northshorevisitor. A Minnesota Ski Pass is required to ski on state property and in many other locations. It costs $5 for a daily pass, $15 for a season pass, or $40 for a 3-season pass. There are 1,750 locations to acquire the pass in person or it can be done electronically, by phone or by mail. Directions:
From Minneapolis, take Hwy 5 west to I-494 east to I-35 E to Duluth.
Follow signs to North Shore at Hwy 61 to Grand Marais and County Road
12 (which is the Gunflint Trail). Go 43 miles and at County Road 50,
turn right and go 3/4 of a mile to Gunflint Lodge. From Chicago, take
I-94 to Hwy 53 to Duluth and follow above.
