Snowshoeing at the Bearskin Lodge

Bearskin
Lodge (218/388-2292, 800/338-4170, www.bearskin.com)
is located in Grand Marais, MN and has 77 km groomed trails including
classic ski trails that includes 30 km for skating and 1.5 km of lighted
trails. Bearskin is 26 miles up the Gunflint Trail on the shores of
the East Bearskin Lake.
This peaceful and secluded facility in the great northwoods borders the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA) and there are no phones or TV in the cabins at the resort. Each of the 11 cabins (some are log) and 4 lodge villas is secluded in a lakeside location with a fireplace and the xc ski trails start right at your door. The BWCA land is covered with spruce and aspen, spectacular cliffs, and frozen lakes. Wildlife includes moose, deer, lynx and plenty of birds.
The
main lodge has a gift shop for items including clothing, diary goods
and groceries, a restaurant, and a stone fireplace in the lower lounge
area. There is a private hot tub and sauna and massage therapy, too.
Lodge suites and townhouses are connected to the main lodge and each
has a full kitchen and gas fireplace..
Bearskin Lodge has rental gear including xc ski equipment, snowshoes, and ice skates. The xc equipment is $16 per day and rentals for skate skiing are $22. The Minnesota Ski Pass is included for each guest.
Ice
skating under the lights, snowshoeing, and broom ball are other activities
at Bearskin. Look for the new snowshoe trail created last summer. There

The Bearskin Lodge rates are split into Value Season, Mid Season, and Peak Season. For example, the lower priced White Pine Cabin is $143 in the midseason during midweek periods (Mon-Thur) per night double occupancy.
