Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing at Pinelands Farm in New Gloucester, Maine

Pine Farm 1

Pinelands Farm (207-688-6599, www.pinelandfarms.org has a goal to provide a productive and educational venue that enriches the community and encourages a healthy lifestyle through recreation. There are 25 km of well-designed groomed trails that are groomed daily for both classic and skate skiing. The trails were designed professionally on more than 5,000 acres of woodlands and fields. The facilities at Pineland include an Equestrian Center, Creamery, Ice Skating, and a Family Farmyard with farm exhibits and working dairy and poultry barns. There are also 6 different Guesthouses each with something special to offer to accommodate a range of 2-20 guests.

Pine Farm 2

The Pineland Farms Welcome Center houses a retail shop and a market that features products from the farm and made in Maine. There is also a cafe, wax rooms, and restrooms. Lessons, xc ski and snowshoe equipment rentals are available. The Visitors Center offers breathtaking views of Mt. Washington from the main floor.

Prices: Day ski trail pass is $13 for adults and $9 after 1 PM. Seniors and youth are $9/$6 and kids under 6 are free. Snowshoe trail pass is $6 and $4 after 1 PM. Lessons are by appointment and are $30 per person for a private, $25 per for semiprivate, and $20 per for a group lesson.

Equipment rentals for a xc ski package is $16 for an adult and $12 after 1 PM. A performance package is $24/$18. Youth rentals for skis are $14 for the day and $10 after 1 PM. Snowshoes are $10/$6 for adults and $6/$4 for youth.

Pine Farm 3

The Campus Loop trail is 5.2 km and provides challenging hills and frequent corners designed for competitions. The River Loop is a 5.8 km trail along the Royal River, which crosses fields, forest land and two scenic bridges that were hand-crafted using hemlocks harvested at Pineland Farms.

Directions: Take the Maine Turnpike to Exit 11 in Gray, Maine. Bear right, straight through the first intersection onto Route 115. Take a left on to Depot Road, then at the stop sign, turn left on Route 231, the campus will be on the left. CCSAA member
