Cranwell Resort, Spa & Golf Club in Lenox MA (800-272-6935, 413-637-1364, www.cranwell.com) is in the heart of the Berkshires on Route 20. There are 10 km of groomed trails for classic and skate skiing. The resort is located high on a hill with 60 mile views.

Lessons and rental equipment are available for xc skiing and snowshoeing. Group lessons are 45 minutes held at 9:00, 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00 and cost $25. Private lessons are $50. There is an introduction to xc skiing that includes the trail fee, lesson and rental equipment for $60. Snowshoe treks can be arranged.
