Snowshoeing at The Home Ranch

The
Home Ranch in Clark, Colorado (970-879-1780, www.homeranch.com)
is a guest ranch nestled in the Elk River Valley, on 1,500 scenic
acres of hillsides forested in aspen, spruce and fir. With beautiful
views of Hahn's Peak, Sand Mountain and the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness,
this area offers abundant wildlife including elk, deer, and fox. Coyotes
can be heard in the distance at night. Available to guests are 25 km of groomed tracked xc ski trails, backcountry xc ski gear or telemark gear to use for classic and/or skate skiing, guided backcountry tours, and lessons for beginners. For those who choose not to ski, there are sleigh rides, a tubing hill and snowshoeing. The trails are gentle and the ranch is at an elevation of 7,200 feet, so the altitude should be less of a problem for flatlanders. There's also a ski shop, mercantile and recreation room.
The
Home Ranch has 6 cozy lodge rooms located in the main lodge. Each
cabin is unique in furnishings and decor. A hot tub graces every cabin
porch and there is a woodstove in each living room or sitting area
for added coziness. Each lodge room is also uniquely furnished and
decorated with antiques, Indian rugs, and down comforters. There is
a hot tub and sauna just outside the main lodge for all to enjoy.
All accommodations have a small refrigerator stocked with coffee,
crackers and cheese for an afternoon snack and a cookie jar filled
with homemade chocolate chip cookies. For two people, the lodge rooms
start at $420 per night and the cabins start at $525 per night including
3 meals per day. There are no phones, TVs or radios in the rooms,
but for guests with lap tops, there is wireless Internet service.
The Home Ranch also offers a complimentary airport shuttle to and from the Yampa Valley Regional Airport and a daily town shuttle to Steamboat Springs Mount Werner Ski Area, Strawberry Park Hot Springs and other area attractions.As a member of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux organization, The Home Ranch upholds high standards of quality in everything from exquisite cuisine and unique character and charm to a warm and courteous staff.
The Home Ranch is 40 miles from the airport in Hayden on County Road 129, a quarter mile past the Clark Country Store.
