Cross-Country Skiing and

Snowshoeing in Breckenridge and

The Breckenridge Nordic Ski Center (970/453-6855; www.breckenridgenordic.com), located just outside of the Victorian town of Breckenridge on Ski Hill Road on the way up to the Breckenridge Alpine ski area, has 32 km of double-set trails for all abilities and 2 km of lighted trails. There are also 16 km of trails for snowshoeing. Beautiful spruce forests and spectacular views. Ski to Kathy's Viewpoint, a warming hut along the trail.

Trail passes also are valid at the Frisco Nordic Center and the Gold Run Nordic Center. Equipment rentals for xc, pulk sleds and snowshoes, lessons, and guided backcountry tours are available.Special programs for men, women, children and adaptive people. Everything a skier needs to get started. Trail passes are accepted at Frisco Nordic Center and Gold Run Nordic Center. Full xc ski retail shop. Try before you buy offer will deduct the cost of a rental or demo when equipment purchased.

Group lessons at 10:30 AM for $30, which includes the trail pass. Weekdays the lesson is free with a rental and trail pass package at 2:00 PM for $30 (reservations required). The Frisco Nordic Center (970/668-0866; www.breckenridgenordic.com) is in Frisco, CO on Highway 9 just off of Interstate 70 and about one mile out of town toward Breckenridge. The center is owned by the Town of Frisco and operated by the Dayton family under a special use permit from the White River National Forest. Trail passes are $14 for adult day pass and $10 for seniors and children (aged 60 and older or 18 and younger).

There are 43 km groomed trails for classic and skate skiing and 16 km of snowshoe trails, which traverse the peninsula of Lake Dillon.. Picnic tables with views on the shoreline of Dillon Lake. Rental equipment is available for xc skiing and snowshoeing. There is a retail shop with wax and repair services and a "learn to ski free" program, a Try-Before-You-Buy offer and a "Children's Trade Up" program. Rental skis may be exchanged for snowshoes at anytime they are available for no extra charge.

Frisco Nordic is open 155 days for skiing with an average of 300 inches of snowfall annually. There is a new log lodge with a warm lounge atmosphere, videos and a snack bar. CCSAA member
