Tahoe
Cross Country Ski Area (530/583-5475, www.tahoexc.org)
is in Tahoe City, CA km with 65 km trails groomed for classic and
skate skiing has great views of Lake Tahoe, which is why the slogan
is "Groomed with a View." The 19 trails are on land owned
by the Tahoe City Utility District Dept. of Recreation, Burton Creek
State Park, the California Tahoe Conservancy and the National Forest
Service.
Tahoe XC is a community resource and the center building is a warm and friendly home for the operation including rentals, retail for accessories, and the Free Heel Cafe that has sandwiches, hot coco, or espresso. The center also offers Wi-Fi access.
Trail
fees are $21 for an adult (18-59), $16 for junior (10-17) and senior
(60-69) and free for under 13 or 70 and older. There are lower trail
fees and rentals at 12:30 PM. The twilight time is 3-5:00 PM is $11
for adults and $6 for juniors/seniors. On Tuesdays there is a "ski
anytime" policy for $12 (excludes holidays). Check the Tahoe XC
for other specials including Nordic Ski Zone Electronic Club, Skiers
Journal, Early Return Coupon, Frequent Glider Card, 10 Pack, and Nordic
Neighbor Pass.
Dogs are welcome M-F 8:30- 5 PM on the dog-friendly Blue Trail or the Special Green Trail at $4 per dog. (Poop bags provided. On weekends and holidays, Fido is welcome on these trails from 3-5:00 PM and there is a two dog maximum per party.
The adult learn-to-ski package with rental and trail pass is $46 for an all day lesson. Junior/senior rates ar $36. After 12:30 Pm the lesson rates are $36 for adlut and $26 for junior/senior. There is a group introduction to xc skiing group lesson at 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM for $20. Private lessons are $40 and $20 for each additional person. Kids (aged 5-9) lessons are on weekends and holidays only at 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM for $20. Free introductory skate clinics on Wednesdays at 10:30 AM, 1:30 PM and on Sat/Sun at 9:15 AM.
Rentals
are available with adult all day gear at $20 and junior/seniors for
$15 child and 70+ are $10. Half day rentals (12:30 PM) are $15, $10,
and $6 respectively. Skate packages are $23 and $18 for half day. Demos
are $25 for the day and $20 for a half day. A pulk sled is $20 for a
day and $10 for a half day.
