in Hope Valley, California is one of the greatest examples of "rustic
charm." This historic facility was established in 1926 when visitors,
who came to enjoy the mountain air arrived in Model T's. There now
are about 2 dozen versatile lodging choices among fully outfitted
cedar cabins, cottages, bunkhouses, and contemporary mountain homes
ringed by aspens and criss-crossed by trout-filled rivers at 7,000
feet of elevation..
Sorensen's is about 20 miles south of Lake Tahoe along the route of the Emigrant Trail that saw more than 55,000 people make their way to California for the gold rush. They came through Nevada's Carson Valley and Hope Valley, CA on their way over the Carson Pass. There are 150 year-old trail ruts evidence of the emigration and Snowshoe Thompson, who delivered the mail in the Sierra Nevada mountains is known to have frequented the region.
Sorensen's Country Cafe & Gift Shop offers 3 meals a day from 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM. Classic beef burgundy stew, grilled salmon, BBQ chicken, homemade desserts, coffee, tea, cocoa, or an afternoon glass of wine. The gift shop has an eclectic selection of outdoor and wildlife photography, books, art, cards, fine wines, and gourmet foods.
Enjoy xc skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, biking, fly fishing, river rafting, and special classes. Adjacent to the Hope Valley Outdoor Center that has 60 miles of trails, rental equipment, lessons, guided tours, and homemade pies. Trail fees by donation.
The
accommodations include bed & breakfast cabins for 2 persons starting
at $115 per night, 2-4 person cabins starting at $150 per night, and
some include split level sleeping arrangements, wood-burning stoves
or gas fireplaces, one has a private whirlpool tub, and there are larger
dorm style buildings that provide economy for groups and small families.
Pets are allowed in some of the facilities.
Directions: Sorensen's Resort is at the intersection of Highways 88 and 89. It is near Kirkwood alpine and nordic ski areas and 0 miles from South Lake Tahoe and Stateline, NV. Reno is 1 hour, 15 mins away, Sacramento is 2 hours and San Francisco is 4 hours.
