Brewster's Shadow Lake Lodge (403-762-0116, 888-762-0114, www.shadowlakelodge.com) outside of Banff, Alberta is a backcountry adventure in a lodge and rustic cabin setting with exemplary service and individualized attention within the borders of scenic Banff National Park, in the picturesque Canadian Rockies. The Shadow Lake Lodge is a true backcountry lodge accessible only by hiking, snowshoeing, or xc skiing 14 km (9 miles) on a marked trail to the site on from the Red Earth Creek Parking Lot on the TransCanada Highway.

Nearby trails include the 1.9 km Shadow Lake Trail, the 2.7 km Ball Pass Trail, or go 8.4 km to reach Haiduk Lake. Panaramic views abound in and around the park setting. A guide can be hired by request. There is no gear rentals, so you need to bring your own equipment. Wildlife in the Banff National Park include moose, bear, wolf, and big horn sheep.

There are 12 Cabins have king, queen, or double beds. Amenities include linens, towels, propane heat, solar powered lighting, central his/her showers and meals, which include a hearty breakfast, make your own lunch, and a full dinner. Beer and wine is available for private drinking.

The Royal Treatment package includes two nights lodging and meals for $196 + tax per person per night. No pets or smoking allowed in the lodge or cabins. Check in at 3-6 PM and dinner served at 6 PM. Check out at 10 AM.

Directions: 12 miles west of Banff on the TransCanada Highway to the Red Earth Creek Parking Lot.
