Royal Gorge has nearly 6,000 acres of terrain, and more than 200 km of trails all machine groomed for striding, skating lane inside the tracks, dog-friendly trails, snow kiting and snowshoeing. Royal Gorge is run by the Sugar Bowl Resort at this iconic destination atop Donner Summit in the Lake Tahoe region of California. It is seamlessly integrated with The Village at Sugar Bowl. With $500,000 of capital improvement projects mobilized, classic and skate skiers and snowshoers will enjoy accommodations at The Lodge at Sugar Bowl, a new fleet of grooming machines, enhanced wayfinding signage across the resort, a new website featuring up-to-the-minute snow trail and conditions reporting, and much more. Patrons will also be able to acquire dual-resort combo passes, offering alpine ski area access to Sugar Bowl's 1,500 acres (and the most snow in Tahoe) and XC skiing at America's largest XC ski resort, boasting more than 200 km of trails on 6,000 acres of pristine land on Donner Summit. Interconnect trails between the two resorts will also be greatly enhanced allowing easy access for skiers of any level from the Sugar Bowl Village to the Van Norden Meadow.
Royal Gorge has four surface lifts to help skiers up the tougher inclines. It is a full-service ski area with trail passes, rentals, lessons, food and drinks and more.The views are spectacular with wide open vistas across high alpine meadows and breathtaking shots into the Royal Gorge and the river bed below. The new operators at Sugar Bowl Resort have returned Royal Gorge to its once and former glory.
The trail fee is $36 for regular ski days and $39 for holidays (Christmas, MLK, and Presidents week) for aged 23-64 and $30 for those aged 13-22 or 65-74. Trail access is free for those aged 12 and under, or 75 and older. There is a half day offer, which is $30 for those aged 23-59 during regular days and $34 during holiday periods. Those aged 13-22 or 65-74 get half day rates at $30 for regular days and $34 for holidays.
Rental equipment is $30 for XC skis or snowshoes and $25 for half day from 1-4 PM. Rentals for Kids aged under 13 is $19 and $15 for 1-4 PM. Lessons are available in a package with equipment and trail pass for $70 or $49 for kids aged 6-12. Lesson only is $33 and a private lesson is $60 for an hour.
